Buffet with local produce, music by Luna and an area that’s the new ‘place to be’. What could go wrong?
It’s Sunday morning. I walk into Hotel Yurbban. The smell of comfort. Plensa in the middle of the lobby. Order in the restaurant. I arrive while breakfast is still untouched and the tables are perfectly aligned. That moment when everything is still about to happen. I claim the table by the windows overlooking Passatge Mercader, presided over by artist Antoni Yranzo with a mobile artwork. They tell me it’s calledPetjades : a great way to explain the past and present of the surroundings. The full weight of history in a street, in a mobile piece that draws the eye and respects the context, just like the hotel.
At the bar, a buffet packed with local produce. Playing is This time around by Luna. I hadn’t listened to them in years and suddenly it takes me back to the last time I saw them live. Back again: the hotel’s lighting is warm and the interior design simple. It has everything without anything in particular. It makes you feel comfortable and want to stay. And inevitably, you end up going down to Signature Organic Spa, where all the products are organic, vegan and toxic free : the future.
One of those places that invites you to roll breakfast into lunch. And that’s exactly what I do. The D’Aprop restaurant rescues grandmother’s recipes and revisits them. And modernises them; the experience at Hotel Yurbban lets you live the city like a local, discovering it from the hotel itself and its surroundings. A true immersion in the most authentic Barcelona.
